ABOUT THE SHOW
Embark on a journey back to the dawn of a new age with Firebringer, the uproarious musical comedy by the acclaimed StarKid Productions. This Stone Age spectacle ignites the Masquers stage with its fiery wit, enthusiastic characters, and an upbeat score.
Set in a time when the earth had discoveries to be made and dangers that lurk in the night, Firebringer tells the tale of two cavewomen at the heart of humanity's greatest discovery—fire. Jemilla - the Peacemaker, the tribe's level-headed leader, strives to maintain order and safety. The rebellious Zazzalil, always on the lookout for an easy life, stumbles upon the flame that changes everything. She’ll travel from the bottom of the food chain to become the “Firebringer!”
As the tribe grapples with this hot new commodity, they learn about its power while battling wooly mammoths and saber tooth tigers. The production is a delightful blend of cheeky humor and heartfelt moments, wrapped in a style that's both modern and reminiscent of our most ancient ancestors.

Audition Requirements
Actors of all races, ethnicities, genders, body types, and physical abilities are encouraged to audition. We kindly suggest actors ages 17+ audition. We are seeking a cast of actors who are strong singers, can move well and who have good comedic timing and/or improvisation skills. We recommend familiarizing yourself with this show, which can be found on YouTube under StarKid Productions.

Actors should prepare a song from any musical of their choosing, no longer than 1 minute. Actors may sing a capella, or use tracks (instrumental only) played over a provided Bluetooth speaker. Actors will then do a cold read of sides from the show. If in need of an accommodation, please email Zhané at zhanes@live.com prior to auditions.
Please note: Actors should be comfortable wearing caveperson outfits which may reveal arms, legs, and torsos.
Character Descriptions:
Zazzalil: (F) An ambitious and resourceful freethinker whose ingenuity changes the established ways of life, for better and worse. (Likeable, ironic, clever, jealous, brash, fun.)

Jemilla: (F) The capable, levelheaded leader of the tribe whose life is upturned by a changing world. (Benevolent, authoritative, kind, warm, diplomatic, a little bit petty)

Molag: (F) The narrator of the show, mad as a box of bats. Molag is the old chief, retired from a bloody war career to take the piss out of the audience. (Self-aware, eccentric, wise, powerful, around the bend)

Emberly: (F) The wide eyed worker, a big mind and heart whose horizons are broadened by an unlikely relationship. (Intelligent, quirky, empathetic, love sick, vulnerable)

Grunt: (M) An outcast, artistic fool abandoned by his people. Sharing their talent and finding companionship within the (at first) hostile tribe. (Clueless, sweet, talented, well meaning, a bit insecure)

Keeri: (F) Zazzalil's hanger-on, a head full of fairies and optimism. Keen to do whatever is asked of her until it clashes with her strong sense of right and wrong. (Friendly, dopey, agreeable, honest, invents dancing.)

Ducker: (M) The tribe's cunning shaman/religious leader. He is allotted privilege and status as the interpreter of God's will on earth (God is a duck). (Self-serving, manipulative, calculating, supreme-egg-head-wizard)

Schwoopsie: (F) The world's first stand up comic, doing her thing until circumstances bring on an existential crisis. (Seeks validation, earnest, corny, directionless, teller of 'The Joke')

Tiblyn: (F) The work-horse of the tribe, (not) literally holding the world upon her shoulders. Her life is grounded in her job of holding up the sky. This (not) very important duty gives her purpose, but also separates her from her friends and desires. (Stressed, driven, pining, important, excellent upper arm strength)

Smelly-Butt: (M) A warrior, he does his part to serve and protect his family, that mostly means shouting at the sun. Smelly-Butt is a staple of his community with a soft side. (Ug ug, primitive, brave, likes to hit things with sticks, also likes slam poetry)

Chorn: (M or F) A tribe's strange half-human-half-ape presence. Apparently primitive and simple, grunting the monosyllabic 'Chorn', there is a concealed depth. (Comic, feral, grounded, tough, is also the infinitely intelligent alien deity who shapes humanity's destiny)

Neanderthal: (M) The mysterious stranger, appearing in moments of need to show a better way of life. (Immediately charming, Ubermensch, striking, calm)
